This integration with DAT’s RateView allows Keelvar users to access real-time spot and contract market rates directly within the platform. By automating the retrieval of accurate freight rates, users can quickly respond to market changes, optimize their procurement strategies, and improve overall efficiency. This seamless integration enables better decision-making for both short-term spot quotes and long-term contracts, enhancing the freight sourcing process.
Data in scope
The integration utilizes DAT’s Rate Lookup API to pull real-time rate data for both spot and contract markets, ensuring comprehensive coverage for users. This includes retrieving rate information based on key criteria such as geography, equipment type, rate type (spot or contract), and the relevant time period.
The data retrieved covers specific lanes and ensures that users have up-to-date information for making informed sourcing decisions. All rate requests are authenticated using user and organization tokens, providing secure access during each bid-sheet enrichment or procurement event.
Connecting the DAT Rate Lookup benchmark with Keelvar
The integration can be enabled in the Keelvar platform under Account Settings by entering your service account credentials provided by DAT.
- To access your Account settings, click on your email address at the top right of the screen, and then select Account settings
- Select the Integrations tab
- Click the Connect button for the DAT Rate Lookup integration
- Enter your Service account email and Service account password in the pop-up modal
- Select Connect
The service account is needed for organization-level configuration, but the user triggering the import must also have an active DAT Rate Lookup account; otherwise, the import will be blocked.
Configuring the integration column
You will need to add the relevant benchmarking columns in your sourcing event.
The benchmarking rates are provided based on the origin and destination port codes and the equipment type. You will need to define which columns of your bid sheet contain the information needed to import the data. The benchmark rates will be displayed in integration columns within the bid sheet, allowing for easy comparison and analysis.
You can add multiple benchmark columns for each container size or benchmark type you wish to include in your bid sheet. Once the integration is set up, you can import data by selecting the option to either update only empty cells or overwrite all cells in the bid sheet.
The benchmark rates will only be provided in USD. If necessary, you can handle the currency conversion using the currency conversion features in Keelvar.

Important to know
- To use the DAT Rate Lookup, a service account is required at the organizational level, as well as a user account.
- Each request counts towards an allowance. Only requests that result in a benchmark being returned will count toward a user's allowance. No benchmark available means no charge. The system will automatically de-duplicate requests when different columns can be populated by one request.
- Not at this stage. We can invite them to share feedback with their CSM
- The number of API calls is tracked, and charges are based on the number of successful data retrievals. Each call corresponds to the number of lanes multiplied by the number of rate columns.
- The DAT API uses target escalation that allows them to broaden the Area and Timeframe for the request. When no benchmark is available, no charge/use of allowance is applied.
- An API call is a request made by one application to another to retrieve data. In this context, it refers to the requests made by Keelvar to DAT to fetch rate data.
- Origin - Destination - Equipement Type - Rate Type
- No, you are only charged for successful data retrievals. If no data is available for a request, it should not count towards your usage.
-
If a user surpasses their allocated allowance, they will be billed according to their usage. There is no strict limit imposed.
- The rate limiting for our API is based on API Key and is considered a soft limit. Users should not expect to encounter HTTP 429 errors (Too Many Requests). While we monitor API usage and have established reasonable thresholds, there is no automated blocking of access based on predefined limits.
